Town Planner Canterbury-Bankstown: Local Council Approvals
EHUP is based in Lakemba, inside the Canterbury-Bankstown local government area, so this is our home council. We are town planners and environmental health consultants in one firm, which means a DA, a CDC, a change of use or a home business in Canterbury-Bankstown is handled end to end, from a free check of the LEP and DCP controls on your lot to determination, without being referred elsewhere.
Free planning consultation
- CDC 2–3 weeks where eligible · DA typically 6–10 weeks
- Free scope check; fixed fees quoted per project
- Quoted fixed after a free scope check
Why local matters for a council approval
Every Sydney council applies its own Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan, and the same project can be exempt on one street and need a full DA one council over. EHUP works from Lakemba, in the Canterbury-Bankstown area, so these are the controls we read most often.
One firm for planning and environmental health
Most planning consultants stop at the planning approval. A home salon, a cafe fitout or a catering kitchen also needs an environmental health or food safety approval, and we handle both. See home business approvals, food premises inspection and change of use.
Approvals most often needed
Residential council approval for extensions, granny flats, pools and subdivision. CDC packages where your project qualifies for the fast-track pathway. For the wider picture see town planners in Sydney.

What we take off your hands
What EHUP handles
- Checking the zoning, Canterbury-Bankstown LEP and DCP controls and any overlays on your lot
- Confirming the right pathway (exempt, complying development or DA) before you pay for drawings
- Preparing the planning report or Statement of Environmental Effects
- Handling the environmental health or food safety approval alongside the planning approval
- Lodging through the NSW Planning Portal and responding to council's requests for information
What you don't have to deal with
- Paying for drawings before anyone has checked the controls on your lot
- Using one consultant for planning and a second for the health approval
Frequently asked questions
Where is EHUP's office, and can I visit?
We are at 32 Railway Parade, Lakemba NSW 2195, open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm and Saturday 9:00am to 1:00pm. Most first conversations happen by phone or video, and you are welcome to book a meeting if you would rather talk in person.
Do I need a planning approval and a health approval for a business in Canterbury-Bankstown?
Often both. A home salon, a cafe or a catering kitchen usually needs a planning approval from council and an environmental health or food safety approval. EHUP handles both in one scope, so you deal with one firm instead of being referred elsewhere halfway through.
How do I know whether my project needs a DA or a CDC?
It depends on the zoning of your lot, the controls in the Canterbury-Bankstown LEP and DCP, and any overlay such as heritage, bushfire or flood. We check the property itself rather than guessing from the project type, and tell you the pathway before you spend money on plans.
Do you only work in Canterbury-Bankstown?
No. Canterbury-Bankstown is our home area, but we work across the Sydney metropolitan area, including Georges River, Bayside, Inner West, Cumberland, Liverpool, Parramatta, Ryde and Campbelltown.
